The Preschool Teacher is responsible for providing a safe, nurturing, engaging, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for young children. The teacher supports each child’s social, emotional, cognitive, language, and physical development while maintaining a positive and welcoming classroom.

Plan and implement age-appropriate daily lessons, activities, art projects, and learning experiences.
* Create a warm, nurturing classroom where children feel safe, supported, and encouraged to learn.
* Supervise children at all times and maintain appropriate teacher-to-child ratios.
* Follow the classroom’s daily schedule and routines, including circle time, meals, outdoor play, learning activities, and rest time.
* Encourage independence, positive social skills, sharing, problem-solving, and appropriate classroom behavior.
* Assist children with toileting, diapering, handwashing, meals, and other personal-care needs when applicable.
* Maintain a clean, organized, sanitary, and visually welcoming classroom.
* Complete daily attendance, health checks, incident reports, and other required classroom documentation.
* Observe children and document their developmental progress.
* Communicate professionally and respectfully with parents regarding their child’s day, development, and classroom experiences.
* Prepare classroom displays, bulletin boards, learning materials, and seasonal projects.
* Follow all school policies, licensing requirements, health and safety procedures, and emergency protocols.
* Work cooperatively with other teachers, aides, administration, and support staff.
* Participate in staff meetings, trainings, school events, and professional-development activities.
* Maintain confidentiality regarding children, families, and staff.
* Demonstrate patience, professionalism, reliability, flexibility, and a positive attitude.

Training:

The student will receive an initial general employer orientation covering school policies and procedures, health and safety requirements, classroom expectations, confidentiality, and daily routines. The student will participate in job shadowing with experienced preschool teachers to observe developmentally appropriate teaching practices, classroom management, child supervision, and positive interactions with children.

Ongoing hands-on training will include lesson planning, implementing age-appropriate activities, classroom organization, observation and documentation of child development, health and safety procedures, and effective communication with children, families, and staff. The student will receive guidance and feedback from their supervising teacher/director throughout the placement, including regular check-ins to discuss progress, assigned responsibilities, questions, and learning goals. Responsibilities will gradually increase as the student demonstrates competency and confidence in the preschool classroom environment

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the academic internship, the student will be able to plan and implement developmentally appropriate learning activities, effectively supervise and engage preschool-aged children, demonstrate positive classroom management techniques, maintain a safe and nurturing learning environment, communicate professionally with children, families, and staff, and apply knowledge of child development in a real-world early childhood education setting
