ASAM 230: CA Healthy Nail Salon CollaborativeAt — California Healthy Nail Salon Collaborative

The CHNSC Volunteer and/or Service Learner reports directly to the Senior Civic Engagement Coordinator. The primary goal of the CHNSC Volunteer/Service Learner is to learn how to work independently and collaboratively to develop grassroots organizing and advocacy skills, including but not limited to: voter engagement, asset creation, public speaking, and political and advocacy strategy.

Tasks: 

• Civic Engagement
• Encourage voter participation through voting and engagement with their peers online and in-person
• Collect pledge cards to secure commitments to voter engagement and educate the community about our mission and work
• Interact with team members of the Civic Engagement Department and their role within the community
• Engage and activate community members through created and shared materials

• Policy and Research
• Conduct research for key policy stakeholders for policy campaigns
• Research on \\Know Your Rights\\, reproductive and environmental justice, workers' rights and safety, etc to expand existing resources

• Communications
• Create and edit communication materials for newsletters, website, and social media
• Research and consolidate legal and community resources

• Organizing
• Interact with members and staff of the organization 
• Support members and staff in educating and activating the community on various organizational priorities
• Outreaching to the community on the organization's mission and goals

Training:The student will receive onboarding training and orientation. The student will also interact with their supervisor through weekly check-in meetings and project onboarding. 

Learning Outcome: The student will become civically engaged on environmental justice, reproductive justice, workers' rights and safety, and \\Know Your Rights\\ resources, materials, and actions. The student will interact with their peers and CHNSC's network in-person and online to educate them on topics that directly affect the community. The student will then implement the information and skills that they learn to activate and mobilize their community.
