Opportunity Summary 

Our dental practice is seeking a dedicated dental assistant to join our team. The Dental Assistant will play a vital role in ensuring that patient care and comfort are the top priorities. This position involves greeting patients and assisting the dentist during procedures, maintaining an organized workspace, and preparing treatment rooms and instruments.

The intern will primarily shadow the dentist (Guadalupe A Mejia) and register dental assistant RDA (Jaqueline Reynoso) during patient care and office procedures. The student will also have opportunities to observe front-office responsibilities, including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and tracking referrals. Orientation will include an introduction to office policies and safety. Training will include observing daily dental office operations, learning proper patient communication and intake procedures, reviewing health histories, preparing treatment rooms,  disinfecting treatment areas, and learning proper sterilization procedures for instruments and handpieces.  Dentist, RDA, or Treatment coordinator  will demonstrate each task, provide step-by-step instruction, and allow the student to practice skills under supervision while giving feedback and guidance.

Tasks:

-Greet patients 
-Obtain and review health histories 
-Manage payments
-Answer phones and schedule appointments
-Track cases and referrals to and from doctors
-Anticipate and assist dentist's needs 
-Disinfect treatment rooms
-Sterilize all instruments and handpieces
-keep trays, instruments and treatment drawers organized

Training:

-Job shadowing
-Weekly schedule one -on- one mentor

Learning Outcome:

By the end of the academic internship the student will be able to communicate with patients making them feel informed, safe and at ease.
-also student will be able to use the practice's software efficiently
-the student will learn to be responsible due infection control coordination or inventory management.
