Southern Humboldt Community Healthcare District (SHCHD) operates

• Jerold Phelps Community Hospital,
• Southern Humboldt Community Clinic,
• Southern Humboldt Family Resource Center,
• Garberville Pharmacy, and
• Fortuna Optometry.

We offer laboratory, radiology, physical therapy, a 24-hour emergency room, inpatient care, skilled nursing, primary care, home health, pharmacy, and optometry services.

The Southern Humboldt Joint Unified School District crosses two counties, Mendocino and Humboldt, in the heart of the redwoods, extending from remote, mountain areas, to the Eel and Mattole River valleys, to Kings Range and out to the Lost Coast of the Pacific Ocean. The school district encompasses an area of approximately 773 square miles.

The Southern Humboldt Joint Unified School District unified in 1948, combining nineteen separate school districts. Southern Humboldt Joint Unified School District is committed to educational excellence through a comprehensive program that promotes the success of all students by empowering them with the skills and attitudes necessary to be confident and engaged citizens of a changing world.

The District is currently comprised of Redway Elementary School (K-6), Whitethorn Elementary School (K-6), Casterlin Elementary School (K-8), Miranda Junior High School (7-8), Casterlin High School (9-12) and South Fork High School (9-12), and an alternative educational program, Osprey Learning Center, which includes a  K-12  Independent Study program and a Continuation High School. Our current enrollment is 775 students.

This placement is only available for students who are current students within St. Joseph's Hospital System who have completed the Social Work department protocol for approval of employment-based internships regarding the required competency driven guidelins per accreditation standards.

Stellar Charter School is a PUBLIC, personalized, blended onsite and homeschool program.  We provide flexible settings for students to participate in homeschool only classes, onsite enrichment classes at a minimum of two half days a week or for highschool students two full days a week with optional Friday electives.

Stellar builds collaborative relationships, encourages flexibility, and celebrates achievement with families to meet the diverse needs of students and foster growth, passion and purpose.

We partner with our families to develop a personalized and  enriching school experience. We offer a variety of educational settings and curriculums including rigorous highschool a-g approved courses, engaging enrichment classes, and opportunities to participate in a variety of electives. Students actively participate in classes such as art, robotics, ceramics, drama, spanish, creative writing, and instrumental music including violin, guitar, piano, ukulele and percussion. Stellar is fully accredited through the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and provides a rigorous program of a-g approved courses at our high school as well as opportunities to concurrently enroll in Shasta College courses.
