Organization Description

We are a health disparities research center that focuses on behavioral determinants of and interventions to reduce health disparities. I am a professor whose research focuses on stress management, physical activity and self-care among low-income, underserved cancer patients, especially Spanish-speaking Latinos.

Program Information

We are completing focus groups and semi-structured interviews to assess the post-treatment needs related to psychosocial health and symptom management among Spanish-speaking Latinas with breast cancer. Depending on the timing, the intern could observe and help conduct the interviews. The intern would learn and help analyze the qualitative data from these interviews, and potentially help write a manuscript based on this data and data from 100+ phone surveys. Also, we are developing several low-literacy mobile health apps to promote physical activity, planning of follow-up care after cancer treatment, and stress management among low-income cancer patients. The intern would help develop content for these apps and conduct user testing with patients.
