Organization Description

The San Marcos Historical Society was established in 1969 for the protection, preservation and presentation of our local heritage for the benefit of current and future generations. Preserving the past, so it can be shared today and in the future. We maintain 1.4 acres within the boundary of Walnut Grove Park in the Twin Oaks Valley area of San Marcos. Our facilities include two historical homes (1888 & 1890), an historical museum building built by the WPA in 1939, native gardens, an outdoor display of farm implements, and a gazebo. We host educational programs for students and scouts, give tours, host classes in genealogy and special events throughout the year. Our research library contains books, photos, personal histories, and maps related to the early years of San Marcos, CA. Our weekly hours are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 1- 4:30 pm or by appointment.
