Organization Description

Casa de Amistad is a truly special place where everyone is working toward the same goal…improving lives through education and friendship! For our population of students, tutoring has been an especially important factor in closing the achievement gap experienced by low income, dual language learners. Did you know that youth who meet regularly with a mentor are 46% less likely than their peers to start using illegal drugs and 27% less likely to start drinking? In addition, mentors help keep students in school; students who meet regularly with their mentors are 52% less likely than their peers to skip a day of school and 37% less likely to skip a class.

Casa de Amistad is an after school tutoring and mentoring program in coastal North County with two locations in Solana Beach and Carlsbad. We provide 250 underserved students in kindergarten through 12th grade with one-on-one or small group tutoring and mentoring, and facilitate educational enrichment. Casa de Amistad is a grassroots organization, working closely with families, students, local school districts, community organizations, and other stakeholders to give students the opportunities they need for educational success.

This service learning experience works for a variety of disciplines including Education, Counseling, Sociology, Spanish, and Human Development.
