Alta Vista High School serves students who have fallen behind in academic credits and need extra time or attention to complete high school. The mission at the school is to create an environment for students to maximize their educational opportunity and develop relevant life and career skills. Intervention programs and counseling services are available to each student to help them plan for college or the job market. In addition to a full curriculum, the school also has programs for students with special needs and those learning English as a second language.

Alta Vista serves about 200 students in grades 10 through 12 and has 12 certificated teachers. Educators there work to ensure students understand the credit acquisition process, improve literacy and math skills, and make connections to the school both during class and after school. Though small in size, Alta Vista offers intramural sports as well as elective opportunities in art, photography, foods and ceramics. Students operate a small store on campus to provide food and school-spirit clothing.

The current campus opened in 1978 in northern Vista. In addition to the school, the campus also is home to the district’s teen parent program, which offers parenting classes and full-time day care for student’s babies. The program helps young mothers and fathers stay in school and get their diploma. Alta Vista is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges and has been designated as a Model Continuation High School since 2004.

Tutoring/Mentoring//Alta Vista has been working hard to implement a strong intervention program .CSUSM will support Intervention Program Specialist Counselor and other programs on campus that are intended to Intervene and turn students into a positive direction in school and in life. The exposure to college students has been very positive for our students and our school
