Mariposa Wellness Center- Community Connections

Organization Description

Purpose of organization is to assist and support adults with psychiatric disabilities and their families in achieving greater independence and competence as members of the community. Services provided include wellness support groups, employment preparation groups, counseling, job training, etc.

Program Information

Students have the opportunity to interact directly with participants, facilitate mental health/wellness groups, and provide individual counseling. Students will also be taught how to use the AVATAR system (an electronic notes system) and MediCal billing. 

Key Responsibilities:
Facilitate mental health/wellness groups and individual counseling
Assist with activities and outings
Help with day to day program necessities

Desired Intern Characteristics:
We are looking for students who are interested in learning, in helping others, who are outgoing and are not afraid to talk to people and are open to constructive feedback. 

Special Considerations:
Possibly on a case by case basis

Interprofessional opportunities available for the student:
Students will have the opportunity to interact with the other staff members that work for Community Connection in other programs, as well as meet Santa Cruz County Mental Health personnel in a professional setting.

All interns must be vaccinated from COVID-19.  COVID-19 protocols will be provided and masks are required to be worn on site. 

AVATAR training and MediCal billing will be taught. Additional training includes shadowing initially before being expected to facilitate groups. There are opportunities for other trainings that may be offered during the year that the student would be eligible to attend if interested.
