Agriculture and Land Based Training Association-ALBA

Organization Description

The Agriculture and Land-Based Training Association (ALBA) provides educational and business opportunities for farm workers and aspiring farmers to grow and sell crops from two local farms in Monterey County, California. Our Mission is to advance economic viability, social equity and ecological land management among limited-resource and aspiring farmers. We work to create opportunities for family farms while providing education and demonstration on conservation, habitat restoration, and whole farm planning.

Program Information

Service Learners would take part in outdoor activities such as Native hedgerow restoration, demonstration field planting, maintenance and harvesting, assisting farmers with their fields, and other misc jobs around the farm. Service Learners who are interested in gaining a deeper understanding of the farming community, environmental and social justice, and enjoy working outdoors might find ALBA to be an enjoyable placement. ALBA is also interested in 2-3 upper division business students who are eager to dig their hands into ALBA's inner workings and take initiative to seek out new and useful projects after they have spent 2-3 sessions actually "dirty" on the firm.
