Defense Language Institute (DLI) Foreign Language Center

Organization Description

DLI is the premiere foreign language training school in the nation.  Its primary mission is to provide qualified linguists for duty in the U.S. Armed Forces in a range of foreign languages.

The DLI History Office incorporates a fully functional archive focused upon the history of DLI, the Presidio of Monterey, and the former Fort Ord and supports the language training mission by tracking the history of the Army in the Monterey region.  The History Office provides historical information, interpretation, and research services by collecting and processing archival records, writing historical reports, and advising the commander on historical issues that bear on command decisions.

We offer students an opportunity to gain professional experience by helping us to process a variety of archival collections, to index our holdings of the Fort Ord Panorama newspaper, or to work on historical projects of general benefit to the community.

The site location:

Chamberlin Library, B-4275
