Organization Description

The Salvation Army, an international movement, is an evangelical part of the universal Christian Church. Its message is based on the Bible. Its minisrty is motivated by the love of God. Its mission is to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and to meet human needs in His name without discrimination. 

Program Information

The Salinas Corps Community Center has easy access for youth and teens to participate in after-school programs. Junior Teens Group is offered for grades 6-8 for social, recreational, and spiritual activities. Arts & Crafts and computer training classes are available for both youth and senior adults. Services for Senior Adults include lunches and hot meals, places to socialize, and activities like bingo, line dancing, and sing-alongs. The Corps is also prepared to provide emergency/disaster relief to residents in the Salinas area.

Service Learners will be able to assist in the following areas: Kids Cafe (youth drop in center) - tutor in math, English, reading, etc.; computer lab; recreation aides. Family Services: Assist clients in completing applications; home visits for food delivery; making food boxes.

Health & Safety

Service Learners will need to fill out the Salvation Army Volunteer packet that includes consent to submit Consumer Report Information. This consent will require you to provide your social security number in order for the agency to run a background check. The background check is at no cost to the Service Learning Student.
