Digital NEST, Watsonville Center

Organization Description

Digital NEST is a workforce development center that has welcomed hundreds of youth from working-class, farmworker communities to develop the technical and professional skills they need to achieve their dreams. It is an exciting time for the NEST as we are on the precipice of expanding to a total of five communities across Northern California by the end of 2026. Digital NEST has centers in the heart of Watsonville, Salinas, and Gilroy.

Program Information

The NEST is a practice space - a place where it’s okay to be new at something and try new things that you might not be good at… yet. The NEST encourages you to get involved with projects that expose you to different kinds of jobs and careers. This is what a typical journey looks like:

Phase 1: Explore, learn about yourself, build confidence, meet new people

  1. Get advice about what you should do next to improve your chances at a better career journey!
  2. Join a group of youth working on becoming better versions of themselves
  3. Get to know other youth trying to explore and discover new opportunities by attending our social events.
  4. Explore our career pathways by volunteering in our work experience groups.

Phase 2: Invest in building your skills

We have 6 pathways from 3 different career focus areas to choose from:

  1. Digital Arts & Technology:   The Digital Arts + Technology Program trains members in technical skills needed to flourish as a creative entrepreneur through our Filmmaking and Graphic Design pathways.
  2. Web + Information Technology:   The Web +Information Technology program trains members in the skills needed to thrive as professionals in the fields of web & software development and Information Technology (IT)
  3. People, Projects + Leadership:  The People Projects & Leadership program trains members in the skills needed to lead teams, manage projects effectively, create influential marketing campaigns & coordinate events through our marketing and project management pathways.

Phase 3: Build your portfolio and professional network

Once you completed the full pathway program, apply to bizzNEST.

bizzNEST is a year-long, paid internship for young people ages 18-24 who have Web & graphic design, videography, or web development skills. This is where you can fill your portfolio with client work and check the experience box on a resume.
