Organization Description

Community Coalition works to help transform the social and economic conditions in South Los Angeles that foster addiction, crime, violence, poverty by building a community institution that involves thousands in creating, influencing and changing public policy.

Programs and Services Offered

Community Coalition takes on prevention strategies that include organizing and leadership development of African American and Latino residents through direct action campaigns that seek to improve public safety, public education, the child welfare system and the social safety net in South Los Angeles. Community Coalition also has a dynamic civic engagement program and cultural arts program.

Health & Safety

There are no requirements for background checks or tests for volunteers working under 10 hours but, the organization would like a reference from professor so the Community Coalition staff person can have an understanding of the volunteer’s strengths and learning objectives or opportunities for growth.

In the event that a volunteer is assigned to work with youth then they’d have to take a live scan and provide TB test results.

Community Coalition will pay for the live scan, but the student would have to cover the expenses for the TB test.
