Program Description:
MISSION: Asian & Pacific Islander Wellness Center's mission is to educate, support, empower and advocate for Asian & Pacific Islander (A&PI) communities -- particularly A&PIs living with or at-risk for HIV/AIDS.
SERVICES: A&PI Wellness Center’s mission statement is reflected through its continuum of services, which ranges from HIV/AIDS treatment case management and psychosocial programs; HIV prevention, testing, and social marketing programs; and statewide and national HIV treatment education and HIV prevention capacity building services.
Clientele Served:
Asian and Pacific Islanders living with, or at-risk for HIV/AIDS, with target population as men who sex with men, transgender, youth, & HIV+ individuals.
Issues Program Addresses:
HIV/AIDS, LGBTQQ issues, Stigma, health care system gap, and community leadership.
Intern Assignments:
Interns will be working with clients who are afflicted by HIV/AIDS, in areas of HIV Care. Tasks may include case management, psychotherapy and supportive counseling.
Interns will also have opportunities to learn about health education work, as well as participating in community advocacy events.
Intern Training & Educational Opportunities:
Students are required to attend weekly individual supervision, inter-disciplinary case conference with medical doctor, psychiatrist, nurses, case managers, agency and department training programs, and maybe asked to attend staff meetings as deemed appropriate and necessary. Trainings will include case management skills, mental health, crisis assessment & interventions and various aspects of HIV care.
Intern Benefits: (Include stipend, conferences, car, food, etc.)
There is no stipend for the academic year 2009-2010.

Interns are required to fulfill school internship hours and all school required activities.
