Program Description:Refugee Services include Refugee Resettlement and Employment Services.

We receive refugees from oversea and have been approved by the US officials. Assit them with their basic needs. They came to United States from many regions of the world: Africa,East Asia. Europe, Former Soviet Union, Latin America/Carribean, and Near East/South Asia.Founded in 1935, Catholic Charities is a social services arm of the Diocese of Oakland,serving  Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. We are a Non-Profit Agency that serves 17,000 diverse people in need, regardless of their religious affiliation. We promote self-sufficiency, strengthening families, and  supporting safe and just community.

Clientele Served:Recently arrived refugees/asylees from Afghanistan, Bhutan, Burma, Cuba, Iran, Iraq, African countries,  refugees from many countries have been  approved by Homeland Security Department.Serving all low-income individuals and families,Refugees/Asylee and Immigrants in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties; victims of violence; at-risk youth, Immigration Services and others.

Issues Program Addresses:Basic resettlement and adjustment to the new culture: Cultural orientation , assist in locationg housing/apartment , transportation, learning Englsih language,assist families enrolling children in school,  assist refugees applying for refugee benefits,assist refugee/asylee makes smooth transition to the new culture.Translation service as needed. Make referals to other services as appropriate.

 Provide work orientaion : coach job interviews lead to employment and become self-sufficient.: job search, job development and job placment/job retention.( Employment Services)

Intern Assignments:will  be working with newly arrived refugees in the Resettlement Services

Intern Training & Educational Opportunities:yes as appropriate

Intern Benefits: (Include stipend, conferences, car, food, etc.)milleage reimbursement for work relate only.
