Program Description:Meals on Wheels is a home delivered meal service for seniors (age 60+) living in San Francisco. Additional social work, nutritional, and volunteer services provided.Meals on Wheels provides home delivered meals to San Francisco seniors (age 60+) who are homebound. This meal service as well as the additional support services that the social work department provides are designed to assist seniors to safely maintain independent living in their homes.
Clientele Served:Seniors: aged 60+, living in San Francisco, and homebound. We serve the most isolated seniors in the city. There are no income guidelines in order to qualify for the service and we deliver city-wide - so our 1600 clients are from all socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.Meals on Wheels serves seniors who live in San Francisco and are homebound. Every neighborhood of the city is served and clients are accepted regardless of income, therefore we serve the entire range of socio-economic, ethnic, cultural diversity of San Francisco itself.
Issues Program Addresses:Our seniors are multi-stressed and often need a variety of services beyond the meals such as : housing, medical insurance, transportation, in home caretakers, durable medical equipment, and legal services.
Intern Assignments:Interns conduct home based assessments and provide referral and case management services. Documentation is also required in the form of written assessments, care plans, progress notes, and monthly reports. Participation in staff meetings and trainings also required.
Intern Training & Educational Opportunities:A variety of trainings and in-services are available both inter-agency as well as in the community.

Other Special Placement Procedures or Requirements (Including Dates of Internship, Special Application Forms and Deadlines):Monday morning availability required in order to attend the weekly Social Work Department meetings.

Stipend dispersed at the end of successful completion of each semester.
