Program Description:  OWLSF is a grass roots organization focusing on social justice issues affecting older and mid-life women including economic security, access to affordable health care, safe, affordable housing, transportation and a safe environment. OWL also focuses on educating older women on issues listed above through free educational workshops and written materials.  OWL creates community and combats social isolation through peer groups, outreach, and cooperation with other community organizations.

OWL-SF is a grass roots organization focusing on social justice issues (economic security, affordable health care, housing, transportation), and education on above issues through free workshops, community awareness, and cooperation with other community organizations.

Clientele Served:  Women of 55 years and older. Mid-life and older women, especially those facing  economic, social, empowerment, and health challenges.

Issues Program Addresses: Advocacy for social justice issues (economic security, housing, health care, jobs), community building, cooperation between OWL and other agencies such as Gray Panthers, Seniors and Disability Action, Community Living Campaign, NEXT Village, and others.

Intern Assignments:  Advocacy work (attending hearings, letter writing, visiting legislators), research on social policy issues affecting older women, planning educational meetings (women’s health, housing, etc.), outreach, attending community meetings, working with small groups and individuals to reduce social isolation in older people.

Intern Training & Educational Opportunities: Weekly supervision, weekly shadowing of OWL professionals at advocacy events, workshops at OWL-SF and other agencies, access to free inter-agency classes (including IOA), online classes and others.

Intern Benefits: (Include stipend, conferences, car, food, etc.)  OWL-SF office is accessible to all public transportation.  Availability to public transportation is a priority in all OWL-SF actions and events.

 OWL is looking for a student who is outgoing and organized, and who has good computer, telephone, and interpersonal skills.

We are presently prepared to take one student.    We can take two if some of the weekly supervision time can be combined for the two students to be supervised together.________
