Program Description:
Outpatient Mental Health & Case Management Services; Part of SF Department of Public Health Community Behavioral Health Services; Individual therapy with age 14 and up (adults & geriatrics); Opportunity for group work with Socialization Day program; Opportunity to work with adolescents in school based mental health program (Galileo High School); Crisis Intervention; Multi-disciplinary Staff includes: Psychiatrist, Nurses, LCSW, MFT, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Acupuncturist and Health Workers.
Clientele Served:
Chinatown North Beach Mental Health Services offers an array of mental health services to adolescents, adult and older adult residents of primarily the Chinatown & North Beach areas. Many living in the community are immigrants or refugees survivors of war. A majority of our clientele are economically disadvantaged, uninsured or on medi-cal, and presenting with chronic or severe psychiatric symptoms which must meet the federal guidelines for medical necessity. Monolingual clients from throughout the City seek services at our clinic given the variety of languages spoken by staff (Chinese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, Cambodian, and Laos).
Issues Program Addresses:
Dual Diagnosis, PTSD, Socialization, Outpatient Groups, Intensive Case Management, Acupuncture, Schizophrenia, Depressive Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, and full range of psychiatric disorders which meets the medical necessity criteria for treatment
Intern Assignments:
Interns will be assigned 6-8 cases for individual therapy after initial training period. Interns will observe staff performing risk assessments/intakes on new clients.
Intern Training & Educational Opportunities:
Weekly supervision with 2 clinical supervisors; monthly consultation with psychiatrist; participation in all System of Care Training Workshops ; introduction to various treatment facilities within mental health system; Interview/visit with multi-disciplinary staff to increase understanding of the different roles each discipline has in an outpatient clinic.

Interns may apply for a multi-cultural student stipend available to all interns in a CBHS agency; Interns may attend all conferences sponsored by CBHS.
