Program Description:

Comprehensive Child Crisis Service (CCCS)at the Department of Public Health is a 24-hour, 7-day a week, multi-lingual and multi-disciplinary team, which was created in 1981 in response to a significant need for a citywide service for children in crisis.  It is the only service of its kind in the city. It helps children who experience problems such as acute depression, psychosis, suicide and homicidal ideation, behavioral problems, juvenile justice involvement and that are exposed to domestic and community violence.  It is our mission to welcome clients who may be experiencing mental health and substance abuse or co-occurring issues or disorders and to ensure provision of integrated, quality mental health and substance abuse services and support.

Comprehensive Child Crisis Services (CCCS) offers an array of services in addition to 5150 emergency psychiatric evaluations.  These services are delivered through a unique team of clinicians, health workers, psychologists, nurses and our child psychiatrist(s).  Some of the services we offer include: 

-Emergency evaluation for involuntary admission

-Up to 30 days of crisis case management and linkage services

-Crisis intervention services

-After care hospitalization services

-Debriefing Services

-Response to community violence

-5150 trainings

-Crisis Stabilization Services

-Psychological testing

-School based support groups

-Multisystemic therapy intervention

-Psychiatric consultative services to other CBHS clinics, schools, hospitals, etc

Clientele Served:Youth in San Francisco, both publically and private funded.  Crisis evaluation services are available to all youth in San Francisco.  Crisis case management services are only avialbe to youth who are publically funded. 

Issues Program Addresses:acute depression, mania, suicidal ideation, psychosis, homicidal ideation, family violence, physical and emotional illness, school behavioral problems, juvenile justice involvement and other crises.

Intern Assignments:Interns will be assigned to respond to crisis evaluations of youth in need of assessment of need for possible involuntary hospitalization and will be doing crisis intervention and stabililization.  Interns will also have the opportunitiy to provide crisis case management services for up to 30 days for  youth who are not hospitalized.   

Intern Training & Educational Opportunities:Weekly didactic  seminar with other interns at Southeast Child Family Therapy Center.  Weekly in-service trainings with child crisis staff.   Access to year-round City and County of San Francisco trainings. Group and individual supervision.
