Program Description:
TODCO’s Resident Services/Activities Program (RSAP) provides extensive and comprehensive services and activities to over 1200 low-income residents housed in TODCO’s eight operating residences, all located in San Francisco’s South of Market area. TODCO provides permanent housing to an ethnically diverse population of residents that includes seniors, frail and chronically ill adults, persons with disabilities including both physical and/or mental, former and actively using addicts, and others with multi-faceted issues/challenges. The Resident Services/Activity Program provides voluntary on-site social services as well as a wide variety of therapeutic recreational, social, educational and nutrition programs and activities |
Primary Issues that the Program Addresses:
Multiple and chronic health concerns, mental health disabilities, substance abuse and addiction, harm reduction, aging in place, dementia, financial concerns, benefits eligibility and maintenance, and employment, vocational training, and volunteer experiences. |
Populations and Clientele Served:
RSAP serves two distinct population groups: elderly residents in the four senior housing sites AND a mixed population of adults and seniors in the four supportive housing sites. All TODCO residents are low-income and include: persons with disabilities, developmentally disabled adults, Shelter Plus Care participants, Direct Access to Housing/Chronic Inebriates Program participants, Section 8 Voucher recipients, and formerly homeless adults. |
Types of Services Offered by the Program:
The Social Services Program currently consists of eight Social Services staff, several of whom are multi-lingual. The program provides a variety of social services that include on-site office hours, case coordination/management, information and referral, translation, home visits, crisis intervention, assistance with benefits, group work, and presentations by both staff and outside service providers covering a variety of topics including health, nutrition, vocational, legal, housing, substance abuse, harm reduction and mental illness. In addition, we have a very rich Activities Program which offers internships to Recreational Therapy students. The program offers a variety of recreational and social trips to destinations such as Foodsco, 99 cent Stores, Walmart, Santa Cruz Boardwalk, museums, parks, beaches, and Bay Area landmarks. Building activities include arts and crafts, coffee hour, yoga, weekly Food Pantry, cooking classes, and Monthly Resident Meetings. The Program also plans and hosts major events for holidays including Thanksgiving, Christmas, MLK Birthday, Chinese NY, Cinco de Mayo, and others. |
Intern Assignments and Learning Opportunities:
Social Work interns will experience a variety of assignments, which will enhance their skills in the required core competencies. They will experience short-term and long-term case management, brief counseling, crisis intervention, and drop-in clientele. They will document their client interactions and will learn to complete Intakes, Psychosocial Assessments, Service Plans, Progress Notes, Incident Reports, and a variety of outside service provider forms and applications. Students interns will collaborate with City, County, and community-based agencies and provide tenants with Information and Referral. Interns will be offered the opportunity to attend off-site trainings.
