Boys and Girls Club of the Redwoods: Teen Court

Organization Description

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Redwoods is a youth development program for children ages 6 to 18. All of our sites offer a safe place for our members to learn, play and develop citizenship and leadership skills. We have over 1500 members and we typically serve over 155 members daily.

Our after school programs are a big asset to working parents. They offer kids a safe place to go after school, help with homework, a warm meal and fun activities to participate in.

With the help of our sponsors, the cost to our members is only $30 for the school year. We also offer summer, Teen Court and Substance Abuse Intervention programs.

Program Information

Teen Court is an innovative diversion program for first-time juvenile offenses. It is a real court that is run entirely by teen volunteers, with adult mentors providing guidance. Youth fill all of the court roles, including juror. Jurors hear the youth participant’s story and work together to come up with an appropriate assignment that helps the youthful offender to repair harms and learn from their mistake. We organize around youth empowerment and restorative justice. Justice for youth by youth!

Health & Safety

Boys and Girls Club requires a background check (via their agency), at no cost to HSU students.
