Program Information

Our mission is to develop the knowledge, expertise, and resources needed to create and support a

vibrant entrepreneurial community and successful, growing businesses and social ventures.

SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES:

Digital Otter Center (DOC):  The Digital Otter Center provides technology services to students, business owners, and residents in Monterey County.  DOC offers a drop-in clinic every Friday afternoon during the semester in the BIT building offering Hardware repairs, diagnostics, and upgrades; Software virus removal and updates; and Tutoring in Google Programs, Coding, etc.  Good Service Learning opportunity for Computer Science students and other students experienced with various technology.  Looking for 10-15 service learning students. 

○This addresses the social justice issue - there is a lack of computer literacy and affordable technology support in the Monterey Bay community.  

○Schedule: Friday afternoons

Reporter/Writer/Storyteller: The iiED has helped a number of students and local community members launch a new startup through our various events and services.   We are looking for 1-2 service learning students who will interview these new local entrepreneurs, take their picture and write a short story about each of them to promote their success and inspire other entrepreneurs in their journey. 

○This addresses the social justice issue - the need to add more businesses in the Monterey Bay region to increase the number of professional jobs and economic opportunities for young people. 

○Schedule: Flexible with the site director

Photographer/Film Writer/Storyteller: The iiED offers several hands-on experiences that engage aspiring entrepreneurs, technology enthusiasts, and people with cool ideas, to create a product and launch a startup company.  We are looking for 1-2 service learning students who will film participants and create short film of major iiED events

○This addresses the social justice issue - the need to add more businesses in the Monterey Bay region to increase the number of professional jobs and economic opportunities for young people.        

○Schedule: Filming and interviewing during iiED events

■Fall semester: Startup Hackathon: 11/4-6 various times over weekend;

■Spring semester: Startup Weekend 1/27-29 various times over the weekend

■Spring semester: Startup Challenge 4/7 9-11:30am, 5/12 9-12 and 3-8pm). 

Community Events Support: The iiED offers several events that are open to CSUMB students, community members and students in other local colleges and universities.  We need 2 service-learning students who can assist the faculty with the program planning, delivery, and providing assistance to participants during the iiED events.   

○This addresses the social justice issue - the need to add more businesses in the Monterey Bay region to increase the number of professional jobs and economic opportunities for young people.        

○Schedule: Flexible with faculty and participation at the following iiED events:

■Fall semester: Startup Bootcamps 10/7 & 10/21 & Startup Hackathon 11/4-6

■Spring semester: Startup Weekend 1/27-29, & Startup Challenge 4/7 & 5/12
