Organization Description

Legacy LA is a community based non-profit organization focused on youth development. Our mission is to make positive interventions in the lives of young people by offering alternatives to gangs and violence. Operating in a 50,000 square foot 1950s Armory building, we provide multifaceted youth programs focusing on advocacy, empowerment, service learning, education, and culture. Legacy serves/engages more than 300 participants annually, our work is guided by the belief that all youth have the potential to succeed and have the ability to be champions for themselves and their community!

Legacy LA's efforts are focused in Romana Gardens Public Housing Development and surrounding neighborhood. Romana Gardens is one of the oldest public housing developments in LA. With approximately 2,050 residents living within 495 units in less than one square mile area. Youth living in Romana Gardens do not have access to critical basic resources, have few opportunities for success and lack positive role models.
