Organization Description

MiOra's mission is to help improve th diversity in STEM and healthcare fields by providing support to promising high school and college students from challenging socioeconomic backgrounds for college entry and completion.

Programs and Services offered

  • Healthcare and science research platforms where the students learn how to review the published literature, develop a hypothesis, conduct survey based study, collect and analyze data, and develop their findings into an abstract and poster for presentation. While they are doing the survey, the students are also empowering to educate their community and assess the impact of the education.
  • Web-based community service platforms to help students do community work with minimum amount of time spent in traffic. The students learn how to use the web to find accurate information from reliable sources such as CDC, Universities etc. Upon the completion of the training program the students are asked to teach what they learned in their own community and in their own family to get community credit for each person they educate.
  • Scholarships for students to attend local scientific meetings. This experience exposes the students to real-world healthcare questions and efforts to bring solutions, and provides an opportunity to network with the speakers and other attendees from academia, employers and industry.
