Program Description:

Emery Unified is a small urban school district located the East Bay. We serve a diverse student body grades TK – 12. With the TK-8, high school and city services located on one site, we offer a unique opportunity for a community schools approach to education serving the often diverse and complicated needs of an inner city culturally rich population. We offer a range of support services. We have a medical and dental clinic on-site, we offer counseling and mental health services, social work case management as well as a full range of educational support services.  With a new building and community center, we offer a unique internship experience of integrated service and supports for the community in which we serve.

 

Primary Issues that the Program Addresses:

We address a range of issues that pose an impediment to learning, including but not limited to medical, psycho-social challenges, detrimental effects of poverty, trauma and learning difficulties.

 

Populations and Clientele Served:

As a school district we serve a diverse clientele. Our ages range from 4 – 18 and our students reflect the rich cultural traditions found in the Bay Area. Our student come from all over the world and are diverse in culture, religion, sexual orientation and gender identity.

 

Intern Assignments and Learning Opportunities:

Interns will have the opportunity to learn service provision in a community schools model. Will learn systems of triage and  service coordination/collaboration, counseling and mental health services, case management services, behavioral interventions and psycho-social support services tailored to the needs of a diverse inner city population.

We have an LCSW on site and a person who can provide PPSC supervision.
