Program Description:
This is a macro placement where students are able to participate in the Legislative process by working to support bills that are before the California legislature. Students will also help to organize our annual lobby days and in election years will help to identify strong candidates for public office and to help with recommendations on statewide propositions.

Policy issue that effect social workers and our clients, i.e. anti-poverty programs, child welfare, mental health, civil rights, etc.

Types of Services Offered by the Program:
Intern Assignments and Learning Opportunities:
- Duties can include:
- Represent NASW CA at local coalition meetings or conferences
- Attend and testify at Legislative hearings
- Lobby Members of the Legislature and their staff
- Construct multimedia presentations for presentations
- Conduct research based on members’ requests for in-depth information
- Assist in general, day-to-day operation of major non-profit organization
- Contribute to NASW CA website/Learn additional website design techniques
- Participate in organizing Annual Legislative Lobby Day conference
- Write articles for the NASW News, the organization’s monthly newspaper
- Leverage social media to promote statewide events and legislative agenda
- Use community organizing skills to assist in meeting members’ programming needs
- Participate in press conferences and writing press releases
- Construct marketing materials for statewide events

Other Specialized Training and Educational Opportunities:
Attend organizational public policy briefings on a variety of issues. The Legislature also conducts oversight hearings on issues of interest.
