Program Description:
Social work internships for 2nd year MSW students in a major teaching and research children’s hospital located in a major urban area. Social work in a medical setting with children diagnosed with life threatening illness and their families.

Primary Issues that the Program Addresses:
Adjustment to illness, grief and bereavement, child protection, chronic and disabling illness, access to specialty care, community resources, school issues, linkages with community providers.

Populations and Clientele Served:
Children and their families throughout Northern CA and also from out of state. Children who come for very specific medical specialty care. We serve a variety of different races and cultures. We see a large group of Spanish speaking patients.

Types of Services Offered by the Program:
Assessment, support, community resources, transportation assistance, adjustment to illness.

Intern Assignments and Learning Opportunities:
Many including weekly (Wednesdays) didactic, monthly clinical focus, process group (group supervision), other learning/training opportunities available through UCSF.
