Program Description:
La Clínica de La Raza, a premier community health center, with 43 years of experience, is one of the largest community health centers in California. We offer medical, dental, optical & behavioral health services.
Our mission is to improve the quality of life of the diverse communities we serve by providing culturally appropriate, high quality, & accessible health care. La Clinica de la Raza Behavioral Health offers supervised fieldwork placements to qualified mental health trainee students. Students are placed at our Community Mental/Behavioral Health Clinic (Casa del Sol).

Populations and Clientele Served:
La Clinica, Casa del Sol serves primarily the Latino, Spanish speaking community of Alameda County.

Types of Services Offered by the Program:
Individual Treatment: Youth and family services, Adult crisis stabilization services, Adult treatment with severe and persistent mental illness.
Group Treatment: Mostly to address mild to moderate presentation of mental health symptoms. Groups are available in: Parenting, Intimate Partner Violence, Women’s Trauma and Depression.
Evaluation Services: By appointment or urgent walk-in assessments to determine eligibility for services.

Intern Assignments and Learning Opportunities:
Assessment, Crisis Stabilization, Brief Treatment, On-going Treatment and Care Coordination.
- Carry caseload of 6-10 clients from assignment until closure: assessment, diagnosis, individual/family therapy, case management and care coordination.
- Lead or Co-lead a treatment group with an experienced therapist
- Multidisciplinary meetings
- Shadow clinicians providing mental health assessment and group (all sites). Shadow school visit, home visit, Board & Care visit, psychiatric hospital visit & psychiatric evaluation (Casa del Sol Oakland only)
- One-way-mirror supervision/training session each semester (Casa del Sol Oakland only)
- EHR (NextGen) training (IBH only)
