Program Description:
The Community Youth Center (CYC) is a community based non-profit organization founded in 1970 to address the growing issues of juvenile delinquency and gang violence in San Francisco’s Chinatown. Though originally created to serve Chinese-immigrant and Chinese-American youth CYC has expanded its scope to serve the racially and ethnically diverse youth population of San Francisco. CYC programs serve school age youth 11-17 and transitional aged youth 18-25. CYC offers programs to address behavioral health, education, intervention, leadership development, street outreach, and workforce development. Our Behavioral Health Internship program provides Masters level interns the professional opportunity to provide psychosocial assessments, treatment planning, individual &family psychotherapy and case management services in school and community-based settings.

Populations and Clientele Served:
CYC programs serve school age youth 11-17 and transitional aged youth 18-25. The Community Youth Center ("CYC") is a community-based nonprofit agency with an excellent reputation for working with at-risk youth. CYC's first priority is to serve Asian Pacific Islander (API) youth in San Francisco, but youth of all races, groups and LGBTQ are also served. Low income API and other immigrant youth are a main target of our services.

Types of Services Offered by the Program:
CYC programs serve school age youth 11-17 and transitional aged youth 18-25. CYC offers programs to address behavioral health, education, violence prevention, intervention, leadership development, street outreach, community service and workforce development.

Intern Assignments and Learning Opportunities:
Interns will (1) provide individual and family therapy to their own caseload of youth clients in school and community-based settings; (2) be certified as a community mental health providers under the San Francisco Department of Public Health; (3) provide advocacy and case management services as needed for highly-diverse population of low income, at-risk youth.

Other Specialized Training and Educational Opportunities:
Weekly group supervision includes training on mental health assessment and treatment with adolescents and their families; trainings are also offered throughout the year by the San Francisco Community Behavioral Health Services and the Seneca Center, which are free to CYC interns. Interns will receive additional training and experience by their partnership with the Wellness Centers in the San Francisco public schools. Interns are also always welcome to participate, shadow or becoming more deeply involved in all of the other CYC departments and programs.

StudentAvailability:
Days preferred: Prefer at least 16 - 20 hours per week (negotiable) on flexible days. Wednesdays mornings are the only mandatory weekly requirement for group supervision.
Hours preferred: 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 pm.
