Program Information

Westmont serves approximately 310 students in grades Transitional kindergarten through 5th grades on a traditional school calendar year.
The Westmont school staff prides itself on communication and collaboration and is supported by our parents. In addition to providing a rigorous assessment-driven, standards based curriculum in all subject areas, Westmont teaches ethical standards that become pervasive through all grade levels during the school year. As a result of this committment and dedication, the quality of instruction is outstanding. Teachers focus on District and state standards for all students, use assessment data to improve instructional practices, and implement an array of strategies to meet the learning needs of all students. The vision of what a school can be - given committment, resources, support and high standards - is what Westmont is all about: a collaborative group with a common goal and desire to make dreams come true for children.
Westmont has a committment to reachiing out to our community members. We have a long standing relationship with California State University Long Beach hosting beginning teachers while they complete their student teaching. We welcome potential teachers to our classrooms. We work closely with local law enforcement and Red Cross to train staff and students on emergency prepardness. Our local churches have been instrumental in providing backpacks and school supplies to students. This year we partnered with a local community group that sponsored our Back to School pancake breakfast for all students and their families. This same community group will be providing dinner and child care for our monthly Parenting Workshops. Westmont has been a strong supporter of proper nutrition for children and will continue to partcipate in Harvest of the Month.
Throughout the school year, families have an opportunity to attend many school sponsored events such as Special Person's day, Literacy Picnic or Rocket night. Westmont has a strong, committed PTO team that supports extra curricular activitiies such as Jog-A-Thon, holiday craft fair, book fairs and family nights. Westmont works closely with OneOC, a volunteer organization that provides both readers and books to students. In addition, they have held several volunteer days to remodel and replant our student gardens. This past year, OneOC and a large petroleum company chose Westmont to receive a large donation to continue to support special projects on campus. A special honor for Westmont this past year was the selection to partcipate in the Disney Musicals in Schools grant. This multi year grant ensures our students will be able to partcipate in a musical production for years to come.

Westmont works hard to ensure that all students feel a part of our community by working together to promote a respectful, responsible and safe environment.
