Organization Description

The PEACH (Peer Educators Advocating Campus Health) program focuses on concepts of positive health promotion and prevention. The program promises to be challenging and rewarding for students pursuing a future career in healthcare. Student volunteers attend weekly 2 hour class meetings where they will develop skills in nutrition counseling, program planning, presentation, communication and leadership. PEACH responsibilities range from planning outreach events and conducting presentations in classrooms, fraternities/sororities, and residential halls to becoming counselors in the nutrition peer clinic upon completion of established criteria. PEACHes’ work under the supervision of the Registered Dietitian.

Program Information

The intern will be trained as a Nutrition PEACH (including learning clinical skills such as screening blood pressure, diabetes risk, BMI, waist: hip ratio, and diet anaylsis); He/she will in turn be involved with training and assessing new peaches. The intern will be responsible for overseeing outreach activities, including coordinating and assisting new peaches, staffing, and data analysis. The intern will oversee classroom outreach activities including coordinating faculty requests for peach presentations, coordinating practice times for peaches, and assessing presentations. Data analysis of student participants in the Peer Nutrition Assessment Clinic Assist with development of educational materials utilizing Microsoft Word and Publisher Other responsibilities to be determined between the registered dietitian and intern.
