Organization Description

The Athena Breast Health Network serves more than 150,000 women receiving breast care at all five University of California medical centers and their affiliates. Athena brings together women, their doctors, specialists and researchers in pursuit of a common goal – better breast health for every woman.

Program Information

Interns will be trained on the daily functions as Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC). Settings include Screening Mammography Clinic and Breast Care Clinic. They will offer individual health education to patient by assisting patients on the completion of a health intake form administered on iPads in the clinic settings. Completion of this form will be used to offer risk-assessment to patients. Interns will answer inquiries/questions related to the questionnaire, and help acquire accurate data on the questionnaires. In addition interns will help recruit and consent patients to the Athena Research Cohort. They will be trained on the guidelines to coordinate and lead research studies; CHR/IRB application process, Research Subject Enrollment Training, HIPAA Training, BIO-Specimen Repository Guidelines. If interns are interested they will also be trained on handling and collection of bio-specimen collection (saliva). In addition, interns will be exposed to the daily functions of a very busy clinic (>40 patients daily), and other administrative duties.
