Woodland Police Department Volunteers in Policing Program (VIP)
We do not have a maximum number of students our agency can accommodate. However, we do require a six month commitment. Additionally each student does have to go through the Volunteers in Policing background check: Below are the qualifications that need to be met to become a volunteer: Must be 18 year of age and after submitting a background packet there is an initial interview with Volunteer Coordinator. Once qualified the candidate goes through the following steps: Undergo a background investigation to include: o Require proof the authorizations to work in the US o DOJ fingerprint clearance (at our expense) o 6 reference checks (3 family and 3 non-family) o Local/warrants contact check o DMV 3 year history
- Background Check (e.g. fingerprinting/livescan, driving record)
- Computer Literacy
- Driver's License
- Health Check/Screening (e.g. temperature screening, COVID-19 test)
- Must be 18 or older
- DMV Driving Record or DMV background check
- Fingerprinting or Livescan is Required
We require all of our Volunteers in Policing to commit to six months with the program and a minimum of 5 hours per month. Hours are tracked via a log and by the Volunteer Coordinator. There is not a set number of hours per week. ViPs can volunteer anytime between 7am and 7pm Monday through Friday (and occasionally for weekend events).
