Adoption and Rescue Team [inactive]
The Point Reyes Animal Shelter and Emergency Hospital is committed to helping animals of all types. We have several departments that offer a variety of opportunities for volunteers to become involved. We also partner with other area shelters so that we can help house animals in need, regardless of our availability.
Our organization works with domestic and wild animals. Due to the extensive nature of our safety and onboarding training program, we ask for volunteers that are only available to commit for one year. Depending on the animal population being served, volunteers will be provided appropriate safety gear and be expected to follow all safety policies on site.
Students who want to volunteer to walk dogs must fill out an application and then be scheduled for an orientation, which includes a tour of the shelter and a discussion of responsibilities. Students must be comfortable with dogs, including those who jump, pull on a leash and may not obey commands. Students must be able to adhere to all the guidelines associated with dog walking, which will be reviewed during the orientation.
