Position Description
Casa de Amistad is an after school tutoring and mentoring program in coastal North County with two locations in Solana Beach and Carlsbad. We provide 250 underserved students with one-on-one or small group tutoring and mentoring, and facilitate educational enrichment. Casa de Amistad is a grassroots organization, working closely with families, students, local school districts, community organizations, and other stakeholders to give students the opportunities they need for educational success.
Casa de Amsitad's Program Intern will serve as a tutor/mentor to 1 to 3 student(s) during the Study Companions Program on Monday, Tuesday, and/ or Thursday afternoons and evenings. The Program Intern will also assist with set up, clean up, and other program support tasks as needed.
Typical Schedule:
Mondays 4:00-6:00pm, and/or Tuesdays and Thursdays 4:00- 7:30pm.
Internship duties are flexible and can be shifted to accommodate student learning needs.
Learning Objectives and Outcomes
- Interns will provide after school homework help and mentorship to student(s) throughout the semester.
- Interns will learn how to build relationships with students to provide effective mentorship and coaching.
- Interns will assist with operations and support of the Study Companions Program at Casa de Amistad.
- Interns will gain an understanding of the needs of underserved students (educational equity) and the resilience/ tools community members use to support educational achievement.
Desired Qualifications
- One year of undergraduate education completed.
- Sociology, Education, Psychology, Criminal Justice, Social work, Spanish majors.
- A desire to give back to one's community and a heart for Casa de Amistad's population.
- A strong commitment to education.
Length of Position: One Semester
Hours per Week: 2.5-10 hours
