Aseltine School

Organization Description

Since 1968, Aseltine School has served at-risk youth with severe emotional disturbances and learning disabilities, whose needs cannot be met in the public schools. Working with students from kindergarten through 12th grade, the school’s success can be attributed to the partnership that the students and staff build, based on mutual respect and understanding, to empower them as active participants in their own lives rather than passive subjects. Aseltine School nurtures, challenges, and engages K-12 students who do not learn like other children. Recognizing that students are experts of their own world, Aseltine validates students’ experiences and opinions, empowering them to transform from angry, discouraged young people into passionate learners, critical thinkers, creative problem-solvers, and positive role models prepared to thrive on challenge in school and in the community. Mission:"To educate and empower students to become critical thinkers of the world." Vision Statement: Aseltine School nurtures, challenges, and engages K-12 students who do not learn like other children. Recognizing that students are experts of their own world, Aseltine validates students’ experiences and opinions, empowering them to transform from angry, discouraged young people into passionate learners, critical thinkers, creative problem-solvers, and positive role models prepared to thrive on challenge in school and in the community.
