Organization Description

The Monterey County Department of Social Services (MCDSS) administers over seventy programs that daily serve an estimated 100,000 residents of Monterey County. Department services include a variety of public assistance programs, employment services, and social services for children and their families, adults with disabilities, seniors, and military veterans. The Department is the designated agency responsible for the investigation of child, dependent adult and elder abuse in Monterey County. The mission of Monterey County Department of Social Services (MCDSS) is to promote the social and economic self-reliance of each individual and family we serve through:

  • Protective Services to Children, Dependent Adults and Seniors

Program Information

CHHS interns will provide administrative support for data collection, outcome measurement, policy creation and community engagement for the aging and adult services branch programs. Intern would collaborate and coordinate internally with Department of Social Services staff and other county departments and various community service providers.

Responsibilities include: data collection & analysis; best practice research; literature review; creating draft policies and processes; understanding interactions between community based organizations and government entities

Desired characteristics: good organizational skills; strong analytical writing; engaging with macro and micro systems (state, county, local partners); systems thinking; passion for providing services for people with diabilities or facing issues in terms of aging; interest in research; self motivated; self starter; collaboration skills; ability to work with multiple stakeholders

Collaborative opportunities include shadowing to understand IHSS, Public Authority, Information & Referral, SSI Advocacy, etc.
