Organization Description

In 2016 we started a movement to make yoga an accessible practice that not only feels good for incarcerated individuals and is also as a tool to reduce the impact of institutionalization. Since then, we have expanded our outreach and vision, teaching yoga to individuals in recovery from substance abuse, survivors of domestic violence and youth.

The intention of the Yoga For All Movement is to create an outcome that dismantles the "us versus them" dichotomy in our community through the shared practice of yoga. The intended impact for humanity is equity and justice for all.

Program Information

Yoga For All Movement is on a mission to make the practices of yoga and mindfulness accessible to all.

Working with our Seed to Tree program, providing yoga and mindfulness opportunities for elementary school children. We are recruiting a Spring Intern to support us in building a dual virtual and in-person program to support the needs of youth across Santa Cruz County.

We do this by providing on-site mindful movement classes to over 12 different programs in the Santa Cruz/San Jose area. We teach to the following populations: individuals experiencing incarceration, adults in recovery from substance use, elementary school students, transition age youth in alternative education, survivors of domestic violence, low-income seniors and families and so many adults with different mental and physical capabilities.

We desire an intern who will mainly be providing additional support to the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator This position will support the day-to-day coordination of our 25+ volunteers, stay up-to-date about current needs from and for volunteers as well support ongoing curriculum development and fundraising on behalf of our volunteer department.

The ideal candidate will have some experience with Google Drive and be able to communicate with individuals effectively to get things done. We are a start-up grassroots non-profit and often fly by the seat of pants, organizationally! The ideal candidate will be able to keep up with the organization's changing pace on a day-to-day and thrives in an autonomous, safe and fun work environment. Your main focus will be in working with our Coordinator as well as the volunteers. You will be providing peer support to current volunteers as the discuss their needs and concerns within the populations they are serving. If you would like direct client experience, that may be a possibility as Yoga For All Movement aims to create a pathway of reentry for students experiencing incarceration. There may also be room for direct policy work as we move to form an alliance of yoga teachers that will be a lobbying group towards including yoga as a therapeutic resource within insurance providers.

Additional opportunities that may apply: grant writing, collaboration with the Youth Violence Prevention Task Force and other agencies as needed as well as continued organizing from the lens of spiritual activism: non-racist, inclusive lens that is devoid of spiritual bypassing and is grounded the equity framework.

It is important that the student have a laptop they can bring with them as well as a vehicle.
