Athletic Trainer, Student InternAt — Palomar College Athletics

Opportunity Summary 

Position Description 

The athletic training students will gain experience with both men's and women's sports teams in a variety of athletic settings, while collaborating with support personnel. Practice/game preparations, practice/game coverage, rehabilitation/injury management in services, and assist team physician in a clinical setting.

Learning Objectives and Outcomes

  • Demonstrate the ability to follow directions regarding athletic training room procedures and policies
  • Basic understanding and application of the purpose of each piece of tape or wrap applied for a specific joint or body part.
  • Demonstrate safe use of exercise equipment, proper set up, and proper mechanics.
  • Identify injuries, basic anatomy, extremity injuries, basic physiological responses and correct handling of each injury.
  • Proper set up and application of all modalities, indication and contraindications, and student athlete positioning.
  • Apply a general format for injury evaluations using entry level skills, knowledge and the application of special tests.
  • Demonstrate safe use of exercise equipment and techniques.
  • Demonstrate and initiate rehabilitative programs for upper and lower extremities, including modalities, range of motion exercises and progressive resistance exercise protocols.
     

Desired Qualifications

  • Completion of anatomy and physiology courses.
  • Concurrent enrollment or completion of Basic Athletic Training course

 

Length of position: One Semester
