(CAB) is celebrating over 50 years of Community Action! CAB operates 6 programs assisting over 8,000 low-income people with emergency, sustaining/self-sufficiency services and serves an additional 7,000+ with requests for information and referrals. Over three quarters of CAB’s clients have family incomes of less than 100% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines and at least a quarter of clients have less than 150% of the Guidelines.

RAP provides rental assistance and case management to prevent homelessness for eligible individuals and families in Santa Cruz County. The intern position with Keep Families and Individuals Housed & Prevent Homelessness! Rental Assistance Program (RAP): Seeking 1 intern; Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred; mostly in-office work, possibility for some remote work.
Main Duties: Answer Phones, return messages, conduct client screenings, assessments and applications, provide information and referrals, data entry, light case management, create and maintain client files, survey clients about program impact and outcomes, other duties.
Duties include:
- Supporting the staff in providing both in-office and outreach case management, assessing varying client populations for eligibility according to program guidelines for the Emergency Rent Assistance to avoid eviction program, applying casework skills to identify clients’ strengths and needs, gathering information and managing assigned caseloads.
- Support South County Housing Collaborative Coordinator set up for collaborative meetings
- Assisting clients by providing information and referrals
- Providing culturally appropriate services.
- Communicating effectively in both written and oral form (Spanish/English).
- Supporting the goals and standards of CAB and the Rental Assistance Program.
- Gathering statistical information as needed
- Performing data entry including HMIS data entry requirements.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Bilingual and biliterate (Spanish/English) preferred.
2. Human/Social Services Coursework
3. Basic math skills
4. Culturally competent and interested in working with diverse vulnerably housed persons.
5. Strong Computer skills preferred
6. Selected candidate must uphold CAB’s Code of Conduct regarding confidentiality and communication.
