Position Description
Casa de Amistad is a Service Enterprise Certified, non-profit organization in Solana Beach, CA. Our mission is to provide underserved children and their families in coastal North County San Diego with tutoring, educational support, and character development to inspire the next generation of leaders. Casa de Amistad was founded in 1997, beginning with just three students, and now serves over 250 students. Casa provides after-school tutoring and mentoring for students in grades K-12th, and college counseling and career pathways guidance. In addition, the organization coordinates various camps, events, and extracurricular programs throughout the year. Learning Objectives and Outcomes
Summer Interns will have the opportunity to work on research projects related to the population we serve and our mission, or assisting in grant writing and research related to this process. We will tailor projects as much as possible to the student's own areas of academic interest as it relates to our mission. Summer Interns will also assist in supporting our summer enrichment programs such as the College and Career Pathways program for high school students.
Desired Qualifications
The ideal Summer Intern readily connects with Casa de Amistad’s mission and vision, possesses an appreciation for cultures different from their own, values educational equity and access to learning for all students, has an interest in child and youth development, demonstrates adaptability, and is dedicated to furthering the mission of Casa de Amistad. Bilingual (Spanish/English) is preferable but not required. Must be enrolled as a full-time undergraduate student in the San Diego area and interested in pursuing a career in the nonprofit sector and/or education.
Length of Position: Variable - depending on project
Hours per Week: Flexible schedule, 7-15 hours per week, 1-2 days per week. Class schedule taken into consideration.
