Opportunity Summary 

Position Description

This position supports the SDSU HealthLINK Center by performing a variety of moderate to complex assignments to support the staff and investigators in accomplishing the goals and objectives of the Center. The intern/volunteer may perform moderate to complex work assignments across numerous disciplines, activities, and projects that require technical-scientific knowledge and skills which might be expected from incumbents who have completed some college ‘lower-division’ coursework in disciplines such as statistics, public health, psychology, biology, biochemistry, etc.

Learning Objectives and Outcomes

Learning objectives and outcomes may vary based on project placement; some overarching goals include

  1. Understanding the complexities of minority health and health disparities research and the importance of transdisciplinary collaboration to achieve common goals;
  2. Recognizing the breadth of research spanning multiple disciplines and collaborate with researchers and public health community advocates;
  3. Applying theoretical knowledge to aid in the development of study protocols and procedures and in the development, translation, and adaptation of evidence-based interventions 
  4. Expanding knowledge on evaluating and cataloging evidence-based intervention materials using program planning models and theoretical frameworks

Desired Qualifications

  • This opportunity is applicable to MPH students only
  • Interest in mixed methods research, including quantitative and qualitative
  • Ability to quickly learn and apply elementary research methods and procedures
  • Bilingual in Spanish & English (speaking, reading, writing) preferred, but not required
  • Good organizational skills and strong verbal & written communication skills
  • Dependable and willing to commit for a minimum of a one-semester term
