Opportunity Summary 

Position Description

The Garden and Habitat Restoration Intern will assist SDRP staff and volunteers with watering, planting, weeding, and maintaining the gardens, orchard, grape vines, native plant gardens and nursery at the Sikes Adobe Historic Farmstead. Interns will also assist the SDRP staff and volunteers with providing items from the grounds for sale at the North San Diego Certified Farmers Market. Interns may also propose additional projects that support the mission of SDRP.

Learning Objectives and Outcomes

Students will understand how to propagate, plant, grow/manage and harvest vegetables, fruit and herbs in the local climate. Students will understand how to identify weeds and sustainably manage them in various plant production systems. Students will have supervised, hands-on work experience related to garden production. Students will work with others to coordinate activities to achieve group/team objectives.

Desired Qualifications

None required however, applicants with experience or knowledge of gardening, irrigation, and native plants will be given preference.
