Organization Description

Catholic Charities commits to providing advocacy and social services that maintain and expand the social safety net for families and individuals. Catholic Charities envisions that the dignity of each person is upheld and poverty is reduced as we respond in concert with collaborating partners in the region of the Diocese of Stockton.

Program Information

Goal: Train professionals and enhance leadership skills for intergenerational community-based health promotion.

Opportunities & Benefits:

  • Networking with hospital administrators and adult health services professionals (monthly SJCC Coalition meetings in Stockton)
  • Hands-on experiences for non-profit organizations
  • Networking with county-based adult human services, and multicultural/interfaith lay community organizations - (2) Professional References upon completion of internship
  • Flexible scheduling, No weekends/holidays

Qualifications:

  • Seeking professional career growth in human services profession (Includes majors/degrees related to Sociology, Social Work, Health Care Administration, Nursing, Health Sciences, Pre-Medicine/Biology, Pharmacy, Counseling, Education, Public Health, Palliative Care, Community Health Research) *** Degree does not have to be completed to be eligible for Internship*** 

Minimum Required Objectives: CAN be completed virtually at this time.

  • Complete 2-Day Program Training (**Stockton office**)
  • Attend at least 1 SJCC Coalition meeting (**monthly at St. Joseph’s Medical Center, Stockton**)
  • Facilitate & present for at least 1 community-based group workshop/presentations (**location varies in San Joaquin County**)
  • Facilitate at least 1 one-on-one session (i.e. phone call follow up (**Stockton office**))

Requirements:

  • Must complete all minimum required objectives
  • Unpaid internship with compensation through networking ADVANCE CARE PLANNING INTERNSHIP EXPERIENCE “Where your health care and values meet”

Additional Intern Projects/ Duties (Recommended but not required):

Remote projects (***can work from home, not required to go to Stockton office***)

  • Coordinate & compile updated Local Resource Guide (Ana’s List)
  • Create infographics & powerpoint presentations for different cultural groups
  • Creation and editing of video media for education
  • Infographic translation to Spanish/ Punjabi/Vietnamese/Cambodian/ Hmong
  • Website development
  • Analyze local community health trends from data

General Community Outreach(***requires own transportation to varied locations***)

  • Coordinating press/news release about program services
  • Donation drives for preventative health supplies (Blood pressure monitors, rollators, EZ lift chair)
  • Coordinating outreach to interfaith communities in San Joaquin County

Education (**Some are now being held virtually**):

  • Community presentations/workshops
  • Corporate presentations/workshops
  • Community caregiver training
