Program Information

The mission of the Queer Resource Center (QRC) is to provide a safe space for Butte College LGBTQ+ students. This is a new resource center whose goal is to bring awareness about LGBTQ+ issues locally, nationally, and globally. The QRC will provide events and trainings specific to LGBTQ+ students and work with campus and community partners to ensure Butte College students are receiving visibility, security, and equity. 

Mandatory responsibilities for this internship:
-Training the week before Butte College courses begin
-Event Coordinator
  -Be the liaison between QRC/Butte College and Stonewall Alliance for events      
   and trainings
  -Attend any and all Stonewall Alliance community meetings to plan and discuss  
   upcoming events (events may include but are not limited to: Coming Out for
   Art, Trans Day of Remembrance, World Aids Day, Masqueerade Ball)
  -Organize and facilitate QRC events on campus and in the community such as,
   but not limited to: Butte College Pride, Coming Out Party, Trans Day of
   Remembrance, other
  -Collaborate with Butte College Safe Place for event planning and trainings
  -Collaborate with community partners for event planning and trainings
  -May be asked to join Gender Sexuality Equity Task Force to give updates
  -Update social media platforms and website
-Develop own event, program, or resource for Butte College students - discussed further during interview

The student intern must have a base knowledge of LGBTQ+ issues and how this impacts Butte College students, experience in event planning and marketing, some knowledge of working with clients experiencing trauma, professional demeanor and understanding of confidentiality, empathetic and open to differing views, culturally competent, excellent customer service and people skills, knowledge of own personal limits and self-care tools, flexibility and investment in program goals, ability to de-escalate students in immediate crisis, positive attitude, demonstrate flexibility and be a team player, knowledge of office computer applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.), knowledge of larger macro systems of oppression.
