Service-Learning OpportunitiesAt — kidSTREAM Children's Museum
While play is at the core of everything we do at kidSTREAM, we also focus on learning opportunities for children. In our case, play is learning. We are seeking individuals to align our exhibit educational outcomes with the Common Core and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). Having these connections in place will help teachers and parents understand the intended learning outcomes we hope to achieve. This opportunity could also lead to creating curricula for school-aged children in an informal setting.
kidSTREAM is also interested in working directly with faculty from varied disciplines to build service-learning projects that support course outcomes.
Students will have a better understanding of Common Core and NGSS and how they align with kidSTREAM exhibits. They will also gain an understanding of how to create informal learning environments for students that engage, inspire, and educate. This is a critical skill to learn before entering the formal education system.
The museum will provide an in depth understanding of how children's museums serve various groups ranging from individual families to school groups. We will also provide background information on our exhibits and intended learning outcomes.
Given the museum is not open yet, we are flexible on where meetings are held. The orientation could be conducted via Zoom. For any needed on-site meetings, the museum will ask students to follow our safety and health protocols. As an organization committed to safety of all guests, we also ask volunteers to inform the museum team of any unsafe situations.
