Remote Opportunity: Video Content Curator for a Day at Heritage Pointe!At — Jewish Home for the Aging of Orange County - Heritage Pointe

Opportunity Summary 

Heritage Pointe has an in-house closed-circuit internet TV channel that goes to every Resident apartment. You get 2hrs to show YouTube videos tied to a theme. Research videos that relate to any theme (can be music, dance, a speaker, a movie clip,etc). It must be appropriate for the audience (check your Gerontology notes). Keep track by making a playlist on YouTube (you can make it unlisted). Most playlists:10-18 videos. Use smartphone to make an intro video. • Introduce yourselves (first name only), and tell the theme of the day.• An informal explanation of why this theme was chosen, and how it relates to you. What did you learn along the way? • If personal video is not an option, you can create a 1-page show program introducing themselves, interests, and why this theme was chosen/personal significance, etc. Be creative! Residents will get copies on your day of broadcasting.

Opportunity Learning Outcomes 

-be exposed to community-based activities addressing social issues (ie aging during the pandemic) and examine these issues from a sociological perspective by applying theories and concepts learned in their Gerontology class to their service experience.
-become aware of Heritage Pointe's mission and learn how nonprofits like this are making a difference in our society
-deepen their understanding of "book-learned" theories and find new ways to understand their own lives and the world we live in
-develop a civic ethic in which they understand the importance of participating in service to their communities
-develop job skills and expand professional and community social networks.

Opportunity Training 

Every student that signs on to participate will receive a Student Orientation PPT which will teach a bit of the Heritage Pointe history, background, culture, and they will "meet" some of the Residents. Examples of previous finished projects from last year will be provided, and
