Opportunity Summary 

Pacific Lyric Association provides the necessary training and experience young singers and musicians need to launch their professional career in opera or orchestral playing. By participating in our Internship Program, students will receive training from the stage director and conductor, be provided a costume (singers only), and perform in a fully-staged live opera with other professional performers.

By the end of this opportunity, students will have learned...
the process by which a professional opera is staged. They will experience first hand how rehearsals are structured, what is required of every singers or musicians, and what training they will still need to compete on a professional level.

What training will be provided to students to perform these responsibilities?
Participants will receive 8 weeks of training and experience (from the first day of rehearsal until the closing performance). Depending on the area of interest, this training will be received from the stage director, conductor, professional musician, stage manager, costume designer, or set builder.

How will you provide ongoing support and supervision to students?
PLA's casts are fairly small (25-30 performers) so interns will receive an abundance of training from the artistic staff. Students will have ample opportunity to participate fully and ask questions. The become part of the PLA family and will continue to be appraised of future productions.

Safety is a primary concern when we move the production from the rehearsal hall to the performance venue (California Center for the Arts Escondido). PLA is required to abide by all safety standards set forth by CCAE.
