Organization Description

Interim is a private non-profit organization with 18 facilities in Monterey County serving individuals with psychiatric disabilities.Services include housing,outreach case management,family support programs, homeless assistance,etc. Placements available in Salinas, Monterey, and Marina.

Interim, Inc. is the only agency in Monterey County that provides affordable housing, residential treatment, social support, homeless outreach and support, family outreach and supported education, and employment services for adults who have serious mental illnesses.  Our mission is to provide services and affordable housing supporting members of our community mental illness in building productive and satisfying lives.

Program Information

The intern will assist the Housing Operations Manager with ensuring all applicants applications are processed. The intern will assist with general administrative duties such as filing, communications, emails, answering incoming calls. In addition, produce and conduct tenant lease signings, orientations and unit inspections.

Key Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Housing Operations Manager, the Intern will assist with the following duties:

1. General administration, filing, communications.

2. Assists with acceptance of housing applications.

3. Insurance of applicant eligibility by verifying applicant’s income, assets.

4. Maintenance of project waiting list, notification to applicants of acceptance or rejection.

5. Produces and conducts tenant lease signings, orientations and unit inspections. 6. Re-certifies tenant income eligibility annually, or as required.

7. Preparation of monthly rent reports for dissemination to Program Directors.

8. Understand and helps ensure that the property meets compliance requirements of HUD and all applicable federal, state and local agencies including current income limits and rent schedules.

9. Reviews files to ensure they meet compliance requirements

10. Reviews delinquency reports, move-in and move-out forms, and other related tenant actions and paperwork as assigned.

11. Ensures that all resident files are up to date and maintained, filed and secure.

12. Assistance with preparation of annual and other project related reports for HUD and other funding sources related to occupancy.

13. Conducts inspections and uses OneSite to submit service requests and make ready.

14. Knows and complies with Interim standards and procedures, including accounting, office organization, staff selection, tenant request, handling of petty cash, compensation, employee benefits, etc. works closely with the Program Staff to assure staff operations meet Interim standards.

15. Filing and administration for the Housing Operations Manager assigned.

16. Other duties as assigned.

 Interprofessional opportunities available for the student Federal Fair Housing Training will be provided within the first month of the internship. Any other trainings that the staff participates in will be open to the intern as well. Interns will communicate and collaborate with all departments at Interim including Finance, Maintenance, and Program Staff.

Hours of operation 

Interns will work at our office in Salinas but may be asked to accompany staff to one of the housing sites in Salinas, Marina, or Monterey. The office is open from 8:30-5 Monday to Friday and the hours for an intern are flexible within that schedule.
